Dame is the dark mirror of Donnie: what happens when talent meets no second chance. The film wisely never lets him become a monster. Even as he commits morally questionable acts, you understand his logic. He doesn’t want the title; he wants the respect Donnie took for granted. In a lesser film, the third-act reconciliation would be a hug. Here, it’s a knockout—and that’s the only honest ending. Creed III is not the best Rocky film—that honor still belongs to the original’s raw poetry. But it may be the most mature film in the entire franchise.
