At first, nothing happened. Leo’s home screen—neat folders, a calming mountain wallpaper, the usual icons—remained still. He sighed, assuming the goose had drowned in a swamp of bad code. He tossed his phone onto the couch cushion and reached for the TV remote.

“What the—” Leo whispered.

“No,” Leo said. “No way.”

“No,” Leo whispered, clutching the phone to his chest.

“Give that back!” Leo shouted.

And that, Leo realized, as a fox began chasing a goose across his kitchen counter, was the trap. The goose was a problem. But the fix was a war. He had installed an ecosystem. A digital predator. Now his apartment was a nature documentary.
