The season aired in Japan on MBS and other JNN stations from October 5, 2013, to March 29, 2014, spanning 25 episodes (Episodes 26–50 of the overall series). It was preceded by Kuroko no Basuke (Season 1) and followed by Kuroko no Basuke 3 (Season 3). Following the critical and commercial success of the first season, Production I.G quickly greenlit a second season. The core staff returned, including director Shunsuke Tada, series composer Noboru Takagi, and character designer Yoko Kikuchi. The soundtrack was again composed by Frying-Pan (the musical unit of Satoshi Hōno and R・O・N).

The season was licensed for English release by Sentai Filmworks in North America, with home media releases beginning in 2015. An English dub, produced by Sentai Filmworks, was released for the first time with this season, featuring voice actors such as Josh Grelle (as Kuroko) and Zeno Robinson (as Kagami). Kuroko no Basuke 2 picks up immediately after the Inter-High Championship arc.
