One by one, Ravana’s generals and sons fall. Finally, Rama and Ravana face each other.
But Rama’s face is troubled. He cannot look at her.
They meet Hanuman, the mighty monkey warrior, and his king, Sugriva. Sugriva was also betrayed by his own brother, Vali. They form a pact: Rama will kill Vali and restore Sugriva’s throne; Sugriva will mobilize every monkey in existence to find Sita.

The war is cataclysmic. Arrows of light clash with demonic maces. Lakshmana is struck down by a poisoned dart from Ravana’s son, Indrajit. But Hanuman flies to the Himalayas, uproots an entire mountain of healing herbs, and saves him.
Rama knows it is a trap, but for love, he chases the deer. A cry for help rings out—Rama’s voice, but fake. Lakshmana draws a protective line (Lakshmana Rekha) around their hut.

Rama learns of this. He does not rage. He does not weep.
Rama fires the divine Brahmastra arrow. It flies straight and true, severing each of Ravana’s ten heads. But the heads grow back instantly. Again and again. Desperate, Rama remembers a secret: Ravana’s immortality is stored in a hidden nectar well in his navel. Rama fires an arrow that pierces Ravana’s heart and destroys the nectar.
