The film follows a true-crime writer, Elliot (James Gandolfini), who moves his family into a new home with a dark history. The home was the site of a horrific mass murder 30 years prior, and Elliot's young daughter, Peyton (Juliette Feldman), begins to experience terrifying supernatural occurrences. As Elliot tries to uncover the truth behind the murders, he enlists the help of a detective, Ralph Dover (Peter Sarsgaard), who has a personal connection to the case. But as the mystery unfolds, Elliot's own dark past threatens to destroy his family.
