The Historical Struggle: The "Hollywood Age Ceiling" Historically, the industry maintained a stark double standard. Male leads could age into their 50s and 60s while remaining romantic leads or action heroes (think Sean Connery, Harrison Ford). Their female counterparts, however, often faced a steep "age ceiling" around 35. After that, roles dwindled into caricatures or disappeared entirely.
