Here’s a review of The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes on DVD (UK release):
★★★☆☆ (3/5) – Film is great, DVD package is basic. Would you like a comparison with the Blu‑ray or 4K editions?
The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes takes us back decades before Katniss ever volunteered, focusing on a young Coriolanus Snow (Tom Blyth) – long before he became the tyrannical president we love to hate. The film is a darker, more morally complex addition to the franchise, exploring themes of power, desperation, and the origins of the Hunger Games themselves.
This is Region 2 (UK, Europe, Japan, Middle East). Will not play on standard US players (Region 1) without a multi‑region player.
Rachel Zegler shines as Lucy Gray Baird, the songbird of District 12, bringing heart and haunting vocals to the screen. The pacing is slower than the original films, but the character depth and world-building are superb. Fans of the book will appreciate the faithful adaptation, though some subplots feel rushed.
