EDA You’re not useless, kid. You’re just… different.

He crushes a crystal ball showing Luz’s smiling face.

Eda unleashes a massive spell: a swirling tornado of owl feathers and lightning. It blasts the guards into the distance.

OWL LADY (Eda) Relax, King. Humans are useless. No magic. No bile sac. No threat.

She walks past a WANTED POSTER: The sketch shows a wild-eyed woman with grey-streaked hair and a bird-skull staff.

She FALLS. Not down—sideways. Through a sky full of floating ribcages. Below is a nightmare archipelago: a giant, rotting corpse of a titan, lying on its back in a boiling sea. Towns are built into its bones. Rain falls UP.

Her teacher, MRS. NOCEDA (a kind, exhausted woman in scrubs), is driving.

A squad of gold-and-black armored GUARDS marches by. Their leader, a stern woman with a scar over her eye, points at a young witch.

Instead, she takes out a marker and writes on the doorframe:

TOWN CRIER BEWARE! The Emperor’s Coven is conducting random magical audits! Unlicensed magic is punishable by PETRIFICATION!

GUARD CAPTAIN Arrest that human.

GUARD CAPTAIN You. Let’s see your magic license.

LUZ I prefer “imaginatively stubborn.”
