In the police station, Veer is beaten. The police chief (Manoj Bajpayee) offers him a deal.
He secretly crosses the border into Pakistan.

Zaara breaks down. She had spent two decades believing Veer abandoned her. She never married. Her fiancé died years ago. She has been living a half-life.
They stand together at the border line. Veer picks up a handful of earth from the Pakistani side, then one from the Indian side. He mixes them in his palm. I am the prisoner here

He is sentenced to life in a maximum-security prison. He never writes to her, letting her believe he forgot her.
